- Justice court judges hear "all actions for the recovery of debts or damages or personal property" where the debt, demand, or property value does not exceed $3,500. Senate Bill 2696 of 2026, which would have raised the limit "FROM $3,500.00 TO $5,000.00", "Died In Committee" in the House on March 3, 2026, so the limit remains $3,500 (Miss. Code § 9-11-9, as quoted in S.B. 2696, 2026; Mississippi Legislature, 2026 Regular Session measures).
