- Tennessee's general sessions courts hear civil cases. "The Tennessee Supreme Court has approved some general sessions court forms as 'universally acceptable as legally sufficient'. This means that if the forms are filled out correctly that all Tennessee general sessions courts with civil jurisdiction must accept the forms" (justiceforalltn.org, Legal Forms, Civil Court Forms; tncourts.gov, Court-Approved General Sessions Civil Court Forms).
- When the claim is for a residential security deposit in a county under the Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (T.C.A. Title 66, Chapter 28), the deposit rules are in that Act; it applies only in some Tennessee counties, chosen by population (T.C.A. § 66-28-102, as amended by 2021 Tenn. Pub. Acts ch. 182).
